Adolescent Skills Group

Structured Emotional Regulation Support (2–3x Weekly)

Sometimes once-a-week therapy isn’t enough.

Some adolescents need more repetition.
More accountability.
More structured practice during the week.

Our Adolescent Skills Group is designed for that space in between.

This is not a hospital program and not a crisis-level service.
It is a structured, therapist-led group that meets multiple times per week to help adolescents strengthen emotional and behavioral skills in a supportive peer environment.

Who This Group Is For

This group may be a good fit for adolescents who:

  • Struggle with emotional regulation

  • Experience anxiety, mood swings, or reactivity

  • Have difficulty with peer relationships

  • Know coping skills but struggle to use them consistently

  • Need more structure between individual therapy sessions

  • Would benefit from practicing skills in a peer setting

This group is often helpful for adolescents who are not in need of hospitalization, but need more than once-weekly therapy.

What We Focus On

We use structured, DBT-informed skill development to strengthen:

  • Emotional regulation

  • Distress tolerance

  • Interpersonal effectiveness

  • Mindfulness

  • Physiological regulation (with optional biofeedback integration)

Our approach is experiential and practical — not lecture-based.
Participants practice skills in real time and receive guided support from licensed clinicians.

How It Works

  •  1-hour therapist-led group sessions

  • Offered 2–3 times per week

  • Designed to supplement (not replace) individual therapy

  • Insurance accepted (billed as group psychotherapy)

  • Brief screening required prior to enrollment

Some adolescents attend once weekly. Others attend multiple times per week for increased structure and repetition.

Why Increased Frequency Helps

Skill development requires repetition.

When adolescents meet multiple times per week, they have more opportunities to:

  • Practice emotional regulation in real time

  • Receive feedback and coaching

  • Build peer accountability

  • Generalize skills more quickly

For many families, this model provides meaningful support without requiring higher levels of care.

Biofeedback Integration

We incorporate optional biofeedback-informed exercises to help adolescents understand how stress impacts their body and how to regulate it.

This may include guided breathing, heart rate variability awareness, and structured regulation exercises.

Collaboration With Outside Therapists

We are happy to collaborate with referring providers to ensure continuity of care.

This program is designed to enhance outpatient therapy — not replace it.
